Social Concerns
In service to others, we are an outward expression of God's Love. The purpose of the Social Concerns Committee is to inform and involve people and parish resources in service to one another and to the community at large.
Emmanuel Dining Room
Emmanuel Dining Room provides hot meals to underprivileged people. Volunteers from the parish prepare and serve a meal to the needy once a month (13th day of each month) at the dining room in Wilmington. Food for the meal is contributed by the generosity of parishioners. Various food items are needed and are listed in the Parish Bulletin.
Lazarus Committee
Parishioners in this ministry offer assistance to families of deceased parishioners at the time of the funeral. Services include Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Sacristans and Greeters for the funeral. Additionally, the committee offers preparation/serving of luncheon in the parish hall following the funeral liturgy and burial, and a dedication to pray for the deceased. Each November the Lazarus Committee holds its annual Mass of Remembrance, as the community prays for those who have died within the past year.
Ministry to the Sick
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to those who are sick or homebound each week.
Prayer Chain
Parish volunteers pray for those who are ill (parishioners, their families, friends) or who seek guidance, comfort or other special intention. Requests received by the prayer chain contact are relayed to prayer chain members exactly as requested.
Respect Life
Members foster awareness and reverence for all the stages of human life from conception through natural death, with attention to the cause of the unborn and all phases of human dignity and rights. Participation includes the annual "March on Washington" in January and coordination of diocesan activities with the Respect Life Committee of the Diocese of Wilmington.
St Vincent dePaul
Jesus commands us to care for the sick, cloth the naked, feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, visit the prisoner, tend to the needs of the widow and orphan. The St. Vincent dePaul Society is a group of dedication parishioners who tend to all these needs in the name of our parish community. Their ministry is supported through the generosity of parishioners through the poor boxes located at each entrance of the church. Through this generosity they are able to provide emergency food, fuel, rental, medical and other assistance to needy persons and families within the parish and local community. Each member in their ministry sees the face of Christ in those whom they serve. For more information contact the Parish Office 302-475-6486 extension 3.
Shipley Manor
Every Thursday morning Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick hold a Communion Service and distribute the Holy Eucharist to nursing home residents. Interested individuals should contact Sr. Ann Hughes, SSJ Pastoral Associate 302-4765-6486 extension 120.
