Bishop W. Francis Malooly, has lifted the dispensation, thereby reinstating the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation for Catholics in the Diocese of Wilmington, effective June 26, 2021. The dispensation that went into effect on March 13, 2020, was put in place to help limit the spread of the coronavirus, and allow the Diocese of Wilmington to conform to guidelines and regulations adopted by the States of Delaware and Maryland.
Bishop Malooly decided to lift the dispensation becuse the average number of new casses of COVID-19 cotninues to decline due to the observances of safety protocols and the increased availablituy of the vaccine. The obligation does not apply to those who are ill, have been exposed to the virus, or have serious underlying health coniditions.
We weclome and encourage the faithful to return to full in-person particaption of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. Let us continue to be untied in prayer for one another and for an end to the global pandemic.
