Liturgical Ministers Opportunities

The Liturgy Committee bears responsibility for coordination of the liturgical life of the parish under the guidance of the pastor.  This coordination is guided by the liturgical documents of the Church in accord with approved diocesan guidelines.  The committee is responsible for determining long range goals for the liturgical life of the parish by carefully studying the needs of the parish.  The long-range goals are reviewed and the objectives for the year are determined annually.

The celebration of liturgy involves many individuals fulfilling their baptismal call to serve in many different ways.  We invite you to join any of these ministries as we gather to worship.  If you are interested, contact the Parish Office or the individual responsible for that ministry.

Adult Choir

Continuing the ancient tradition of sung prayer within the liturgy, the choir participates in weekend (usually the 10 a.m. liturgy) liturgies from October through May. Rehearsals are each Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Religious Education Center.  Anyone interested in our choir may contact David Ifkovits, Director of Music & Liturgy at 302-475-6486 extension125.

Altar Servers

Boys and girls of the parish who are in fifth grade or above are encouraged to become Altar Servers for Mass and other parish liturgies. Altar servers assist the priest and deacon at the altar.  Ongoing training is provided to prepare for this ministry.  Interested individuals (5 grade or above) should contact Deacon Joe Cilia at 302-475-6486 extension 112.

Cantors

Cantors are part of the Adult Choir and lead the assembly in sung prayer and responses at all our parish liturgies.  Interested individuals should contact David Ifokvits, Director of Music & Liturgy at 302-475-6486 extension 125.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Parishioners are invited to this ministry by the clergy and receive formation according to the Diocesan guidelines. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the ordinary ministers (bishop, priest, deacon) in distribution of Holy Communion under both species at Mass. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick bring communion to the sick and shut-ins each week.  Interested individuals should contact Fr. Carrier or Deacon Cilia.

Ministers of the Word (Lectors)

Ministers of the Word proclaim God’s word through the proclamation of the sacred Scriptures at all liturgies.  Proper formation is provided in the process and proclamation of the Scriptures.  Interest individuals should contact Deacon Joseph Cilia 302-475-6486 extension 112.

Presentation of the Gifts

All parishioners are encouraged to participate in the presentation of the gifts (bread, wine and monetary) at weekend liturgies. You may participate as a family or singly with other parishioners. Please offer to do so by advising one of the ushers before Mass at the back of the church near or in Portico 3.  If asked by the ushers, one may consider the honour to serve their parish community.

Ushers

Volunteer parishioners (men and women) are responsible for seating the congregation, taking up collections, assist with the flow of the assembly for the distribution of communion, and distribute the weekly bulletin at the end of Mass, assist with any emergencies.   Interested individuals should contact the Parish Office at 302-475-6486 extension 110.
